2015 Design Summit

Monroe – The American Council of Engineering Companies of New Jersey, New Jersey Department of Transportation and Federal Highway Association jointly sponsored the 2015 Design Summit on May 20, 2015. The Design Summit involved three presentations in different subject areas by representatives of engineering firms, NJDOT and FHWA staff. Topics were Innovative Intersections, Stormwater Management and Pulaski Skyway. The presentation is available for download below.

The Innovative Intersections panel discussed the several types of non-typical intersection designs that designers should be considering instead of the typical signalized intersections. Several examples of innovative intersections in New Jersey were highlighted describing the design criteria and lessons learned.

The Stormwater Management presentation provided background on the changes in the Federal and NJDEP stormwater management rules and regulations and how they are applied to NJDOT projects. A case study was provided with examples which proved very beneficial for Summit attendees.

The Pulaski Sky Way panel discussed the options which were originally considered and provided a general understanding of this immense project. Additional information was given on how the Department tackled this $1 billion dollar project.

The Design Summit focuses on strengthening the communication, coordination and cooperation among FHWA, NJDOT and the engineering consultant community. The all-day event featured panels that were requested by 2014 Design Summit attendees. Professional engineers earned continuing education credits in both New Jersey and New York.
