49th Engineering Excellence Awards Banquet Photos

The 49th Annual Engineering Excellence Awards (EEA) celebrating the engineering achievements over the last year went on despite the recent environmental changes due to COVID-19. Covered in masks and keeping our social distance didn’t stop our honorees from enjoying their night. It was a beautiful evening to honor the industries excellence, as President Joe Fiordaliso welcomed everyone who attended and thanked all for supporting ACECNJ during these tough times. Chairmen Glen Kartalis kicked off the program discussing the change in the environment due to COVID-19, but now we all have to look toward the future and how this will affect our future engineers.

A few future engineers were in the audience to accept their scholarship awards for their achievements at their colleges of choice from Long Island, New York to right here in New Jersey. Gathered around the engineers of today, all scholarship winners were welcomed and enjoyed the banquet with the opportunity to network with industry leaders. Before the project awards, Affiliate of the year William H. Connolly; The Young Professional of the Year, Megan O’Connell of WSP; Member Recognition Award, William McGarrigel, PE of Urban Engineers; Educator of the Year Dr. Ali Maher a Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Rutgers University; Distinguished Service Award of the year Rizwan Baig, PE, PTP, PTOE from the Port Authority of NY & NJ were all recognized for their positive contributions to the engineering community over their careers.

32 projects were awarded last night in the categories of Non-Transportation, Small Projects, and Large projects and were displayed during the event for all attendees to recognize. Remington & Vernick’s Baration System Upgrade and Energy Improvements in Gloucester County and T&M Associates’ Iowa Court and South Green Street ran against each other for the Grand Honor for Non-Transportation projects, where T&M with Albert Marine Construction took home the Grand Honor for Non-Transportation projects. In the Small Project’s category Boswell Engineering’s Rehabilitation of Borton Road Bridge over Pine Brook in Essex County, and Modjeski and Masters Hackensack River Lift Shift Replacement both were in the running for the Grand Honor where Modjeski and Masters in coordination with contractor Cornell & Company Construction took home the award. Our final category Grand Honor for Large Projects had big competition where HDR Inc.’s Bayou Sara Swing Bridge CSX, Michael Baker International Route 280/21 Interchange Improvements, Stantec Consulting Services Garden State Parkway 125 Interchange Improvements, where HDR took home the Grand Honor recognition with their contractor Brasfield & Gorrie. Congratulations to all the winners, and thank everyone who attended the 49th Annual EEA Awards.
