CHERRY HILL, NJ - ACECNJ kicked off its 2014 schedule with a splash yesterday at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Cherry Hill. Nearly 150 engineering professionals representing over 70 firms from throughout the region attended a high level discussion of issues facing various Delaware River authorities.
Keynote speakers from the Delaware River Port Authority, Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission, Delaware River Bay Authority and Burlington County Bridge Commission proved a substantial draw for members of ACEC/PA and ACECNJ, who jointly hosted the event.
"This morning's event was valuable opportunity for consultants to hear directly from key decision-makers at these agencies," said ACECNJ Chairman Sanjay Naik. "Pennsylvania and New Jersey not only have many ACEC members in common, but many issues and challenges our state agencies face are the same, making collaboration between our state member organizations logical and beneficial."
The presentations were highly informative and gave a six-month look-ahead of the agencies' focus, covering important topics about specific projects, rough cost estimates, details regarding anticipated schedules, and any alternative delivery methods being considered. Generous sponsorships by Gannett Fleming and Pennoni made this important event possible.
Speakers included: Michael P. Venuto, PE, PLS, Director of Engineering/Chief Engineer of the Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA), Shoukry Elnahal, Chief Engineer of the Delaware River and Bay Authority (DRBA), David S. Lowdermilk, PE, Program Manager of the Burlington County Bridge Commission (BCBC), and Joseph J. Resta, Executive Director of the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission (DRJTBC).
ACECNJ and ACEC/PA will continue to look for opportunities to collaborate to maximize the value to member firms. The organizations have already announced they will hold their second tri-state fall conference - which will also include ACEC-NY - in September 2016 in West Point, NY.
