[Atlantic City] ACECNJ’s 2015 Annual Fall Conference brought together more than 150 engineering professionals from around the state of New Jersey. The fall conference began on Sunday, September 20th with a choice of day of golf at the prestigious Galloway National Golf Club or a fishing trip on the Miss Atlantic City.

On Sunday evening, the welcome reception honored the New Jersey Turnpike Authority engineering department - "The New Jersey Turnpike Authority: Leading New Jersey into the Future". ACECNJ was honored to have Robert Fischer, Chief Engineer, John Keller, Deputy Chief Engineer Design and Larry Williams, Deputy Chief Engineer Construction, join us for the event.

The fall conference continued on Monday, September 21st with opportunities for professional engineers to earn continuing education credits, network with clients and other ACECNJ members, and hear from leaders in the profession through panel discussions. The morning began with an open transportation committee meeting and a session focused on asset hardening and resiliency initiatives in New Jersey.

Additional continuing education sessions occurred throughout the remainder of the morning. Courses included but were not limited to the following: ‘Engineering Ethics: Do the Right Thing' and 'Content and Social Media for Professional Services'. For the first time at the fall conference ACECNJ offered a roundtable discussion 'Legal Issues Facing the Engineering Industry' facilitated by Tim Hegarty, Esq., Zetlin & DeChiara.

As always the ACECNJ luncheon keynote did not disappoint. Commissioner Bob Martin, NJDEP, kicked off the luncheon and provided our attendees with an in depth update on the Departments upcoming programs. After the Commissioner departed, attendees were able to meet renowned author and historian, Nelson Johnson. Mr. Johnson is the author of Boardwalk Empire which inspired the HBO series of the name.

In the afternoon, attendees attended breakout sessions but were not limited to the following: "Cyber Liability", "Green Infrastructure for the Built Environment" and "Infrastructure Funding: Exploring New Markets for your Firm".

The final panel discussion, ‘Delivering a Capital Program: Challenges & Opportunities’ included representatives from New Jersey’s main transportation agencies, Robert Fischer, NJTA, Dave Lambert, NJDOT, Stephen Mazur, SJTA and Steven Santoro, NJ TRANSIT, moderated by the Honorable Stephen Dilts, HNTB Corporation. The panelists discussed the visions and priorities for repairing and rehabilitating New Jersey’s roads, bridges and transit systems and the challenges in delivering major programs.

At the farewell reception, attendees gathered one last time to hear from Atlantic City Mayor Don Guardian. This provided a great time to network and collect their certificates earned through the continuing education courses offered during the conference. ACECNJ is eager to assist in the planning of the 2016 Tr-State Annual Fall Conference and invites you to continue to check back on the website for updates.
